Kildrummy Inn – Full Refurbishment & Extension
In 2021/22, Gordon Mitchell Contractors were appointed to undertake the extensive refurbishment and extension of Kildrummy Inn, a well-established traditional country Inn located in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire.
The project involved a comprehensive transformation of the existing property, combining the careful refurbishment of the traditional building with the construction of two new extensions. The works were delivered in two main phases, allowing the different areas of the Inn to be carefully coordinated throughout the construction programme.
Phase One – Restaurant & Commercial Kitchen
The first phase focused on the refurbishment of the restaurant areas together with the installation of a new, fully equipped commercial kitchen.
The existing spaces were extensively upgraded to create a high-quality restaurant environment while retaining the character and traditional feel expected of a country Inn such as Kildrummy.
Behind the scenes, significant work was undertaken to provide the infrastructure required for a modern commercial hospitality operation. This included the complete refurbishment of the kitchen and associated service areas, incorporating new mechanical and electrical installations and the introduction of a mains water supply to the property.
Phase Two – Hotel, Bedrooms & Whisky Bar
The second phase concentrated on the hotel accommodation and guest areas.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were comprehensively refurbished, providing traditional, comfortable accommodation while maintaining a style sympathetic to the character of the existing building.
A new whisky bar was also created as part of the refurbishment, providing a distinctive additional space within the Inn and complementing the newly refurbished restaurant and hotel facilities.
Throughout the property, new windows were installed, improving the appearance, performance and comfort of the building while respecting its traditional architectural character.
External & Structural Works
In addition to the extensive internal refurbishment, Gordon Mitchell Contractors constructed two new extensions to increase and improve the usable space within the property.
Major works were also undertaken to the existing building fabric, including the complete re-slating of the existing roof. These works were carefully coordinated to protect and enhance the traditional appearance of the Inn while providing the durability required for the building’s continued use.
Delivering a project of this scale within an existing traditional property required careful planning and coordination between the client, design team, specialist contractors and trades.
As main contractor, Gordon Mitchell Contractors managed the construction works across both phases, bringing together the new extensions, refurbishment works and upgraded building services to create a cohesive finished property.
The completed project transformed Kildrummy Inn into a traditional and welcoming hospitality destination while retaining the traditional character and charm of the original building.
