Located on the banks of the River Dee, in a private setting minutes from the town centre of Banchory, Gordon Mitchell Contractors were appointed as the Principal Contractor to demolish a pre-existing 1960’s bungalow and deliver an energy efficient, new build family home.
Working closely with Fiddes architects, the main concept was to create a 1¾ storey building in traditional pitched roof form and sub-divide the structure with material variations to emphasise the external vertical and horizontal elements. These variations consisted of lead dormers, a natural slate roof, UV treated Western Red Cedar and Acrylic white render to the facades of the building.
The South Elevation of the house backs onto the stunning banks of the River Dee where an extended double height glazed gable section allows the natural light to flood in and the backdrop to come alive. In contrast, the North elevation of the dwelling provides a much more minimalistic and simple approach.
