In 2008 Gordon Mitchell contractors were commissioned to construct a large three-story country-inspired traditional house, located in a private and secluded setting in the heart of Royal Deeside.
As the main contractor, we were delighted to be given the opportunity to deliver this project from conception to completion, as our passion very much lies in creating structures of this nature.
The large country house, with an approximate 600m2 footage of space, was to be accompanied by a newly built cottage to house a full-time groundskeeper/housekeeper.
Prior to commencement of work, renovations were completed on the East and West coach houses in the grounds of the estate. These refurbishments were done so the clients had a place to stay during the construction of the main house, and now operate as guest houses.
The design of the main property was to be in-keeping with its rural surroundings, and was to sit in the centre of an extremely well-maintained garden, boasting stunning lawns and beautifully paved granite paths. Our brief from the client was also to use a conventional colour palette, both internally and externally.
Some of the traditional features requested were; barrelled ceilings in the kitchen and family room, old-style plastered timber corner beads, a two-way grand oak staircase, dentil cornices around all ceiling junctions, bespoke oak doors, traditional granite fireplaces and a geo-thermal borehole heating system.
We worked closely with the dedicated property surveyors to take into consideration the precise measurements, and identify any boundaries in our construction. The excellent design work was carried out by experienced architects based in nearby Tain. Effective communication from the outset between all team members and services resulted in very few challenges. The architects, engineers, electricians and plumbers all worked together to ensure the finished product met and exceeded expectations.
We were delighted to hear that the client found out about Gordon Mitchell Contractors due to our reliable reputation in the Aberdeenshire area.
